Vasilina Mikhaylova is a Russian artist based in Los Angeles, CA, specializing in visual development and background painting.
Vasilina was born and raised in Krasnoyarsk, Russia where she studied traditional art disciplines at the Univers Gymnasium Art School. From an early age, she was interested in watching cartoons for both entertainment and educational purposes. Animated films were Vasilina’s way of learning English. By the age of 15, she decided to continue her language studies by moving to Toronto, Canada on her own. During the next 3 years, she explored various career fields, but nothing interested her more than animation, which motivated her to move to Los Angeles, CA.
In May 2021, Vasilina graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a bachelor’s degree in animation and the Best Character Animation Award. During her time in college, she interned as a storyboard artist and animator at Acme Rocket Fuel; collaborated on numerous student films; and directed an animated short, Grey, which was featured at the Newport Beach Film Festival 2021, and won the Golden Lion Award at the SFTV Industry Awards 2021.
Having lived in 3 different countries, Vasilina is a very open-minded and versatile person who loves to learn about cultures. In her free time, she enjoys studying German, learning K-pop dances, painting birds and watching Formula 1 with her friends.
